Deputy Sheriff William G. Giacomo was shot and killed by a parolee who had just been arrested for a DUI violation. While processing the suspect for a breathalyzer test, Deputy Giacomo paused to answer the phone. As Deputy Giacomo turned back around, the suspect displayed a small pistol that he had concealed in his boot. A struggle ensued during which the suspect shot Deputy Giacomo in the head. Deputy Giacomo was transported to a local hospital where he died later in the day.
