Scholarship Spotlight: Jazlyn Hill

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Jazlyn Re’nee Hill as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

Jazlyn, the daughter of Latasha Hill of TDCJ Health Services, will attend Hardin-Simmons University, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) while continuing her basketball career at the collegiate level.

For Jazlyn, attending college is the realization of two lifelong dreams—earning a nursing degree and competing in the sport she has loved since childhood.

In her scholarship essay, she shares that basketball has been part of her life from the very beginning. Growing up in a family deeply connected to the game, she began playing at just five years old. Over the years, basketball became much more than a sport. It taught her discipline, resilience, teamwork, leadership, and the time management skills that have prepared her for college and beyond.

This fall, she will continue that journey as a member of the Hardin-Simmons University women’s basketball program while pursuing her nursing education.

Jazlyn’s vision for the future extends well beyond earning her degree.

After completing her BSN, she plans to become a Nurse Practitioner with the long-term goal of opening her own healthcare practice alongside other nurses, providing accessible, high-quality care to her community.

Her desire to serve others is rooted in her Christian faith.

Jazlyn writes that her faith guides her daily decisions and reminds her that healthcare is about much more than treating illness.

“Healthcare is not only about treating illness, but also about uplifting and encouraging people during difficult times.”

That philosophy reflects the compassion she hopes to bring to every patient she serves.

As she prepares for the challenges of balancing collegiate athletics with a rigorous nursing program, Jazlyn remains grateful for the opportunity to pursue both passions while building a future dedicated to caring for others.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to support students like Jazlyn whose commitment to faith, leadership, education, and service embodies the values of correctional families across the nation.

Congratulations, Jazlyn! We wish you tremendous success both on the basketball court and in your future career in healthcare.
