Scholarship Spotlight: Beauty Akinwande

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Beauty Moyosore Akinwande as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

Beauty, the daughter of Omolola Jumoke Ogunsesin of the Ferguson Unit with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, is pursuing her education at Lone Star College–Kingwood.

Beauty’s story is one of perseverance, gratitude, and determination.

Born in Nigeria, she spent much of her childhood living with her grandmother before relocating to the United States. Those early years instilled values that continue to guide her today—discipline, respect, and a deep appreciation for family.

Growing up in a blended family and being raised primarily by her mother taught Beauty resilience from an early age.

In her scholarship essay, she reflects on watching her mother work tirelessly to provide for their family as a single parent.

“Even when she was tired, she never gave up. She always encouraged us to stay in school, work hard, and believe in ourselves.”

Those lessons became the foundation for Beauty’s own work ethic.

Rather than allowing life’s challenges to define her, she has used them as motivation to pursue higher education and create opportunities for herself and her family.

As a first-year college student, Beauty understands both the excitement and responsibility that come with pursuing a degree. She knows that earning a college education will not only help her build a successful career, but also allow her to give back to the woman who has sacrificed so much for her future.

Her goal is simple but powerful—to build a stable career, support her family, and create opportunities for others who may face similar challenges.

Beauty writes that she does not see her life as a story of hardship.

Instead, she sees it as a story of strength, hope, and perseverance.

“I do not see my challenges as limitations; I see them as motivation. They push me to aim higher and work harder every day.”

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to invest in students like Beauty whose determination reflects the strength and resilience found throughout correctional families.

Congratulations, Beauty! We wish you every success as you continue pursuing your education and the bright future that lies ahead.
