Scholarship Recipient Spotlight: Janea Shubert

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize 2026 scholarship recipient Janea Shubert, a Correctional Classification Officer at Wakulla Correctional Institution in Florida.

Janea’s story is one of determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to both her family and her profession. As a dedicated single parent and first-generation graduate student, she balances the responsibilities of raising two children with special needs while pursuing a master’s degree and continuing her career within the Department of Corrections.

As the sole provider for her household, Janea manages the demands of parenting, work, and higher education with remarkable perseverance. She is driven by a desire to create a more secure future for her family while expanding her opportunities for growth and advancement within corrections. Earning her master’s degree will strengthen her professional skills, open new career pathways, and increase her ability to make a meaningful impact on the communities she serves.

Through the challenges of supporting children with ADHD and other developmental needs, Janea has developed exceptional patience, adaptability, and compassion. These experiences have fueled her passion for advocacy, service, and creating opportunities for others facing barriers in life.

Perhaps most importantly, Janea hopes her educational journey serves as an example for her children. By pursuing her goals despite significant obstacles, she is demonstrating the values of perseverance, self-improvement, and the power of education.

Janea’s scholarship was presented by Senior Field Representative John Kolodziej, recognizing both her academic achievements and her commitment to building a brighter future for her family.

We congratulate Janea on this well-deserved scholarship and look forward to seeing all she accomplishes in the years ahead.
