Honoring Those Who Serve — Behind the Walls and Beyond the Call of Duty

Veterans Day Tribute from the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation

Each November, we pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our nation embody the highest ideals of service. At the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF), this day carries even deeper meaning — because so many of the correctional professionals we proudly support are veterans themselves.

Across the country, countless correctional officers and staff have answered two extraordinary calls to service: first to defend our freedom, and then to protect our communities behind the walls. Their discipline, integrity, and sense of duty carry over from the military to their correctional careers, where they continue to serve with honor, often in difficult and dangerous environments.

From state institutions to federal facilities, these men and women represent every branch of the military, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard,  and they continue to uphold the same values of courage, respect, and teamwork that defined their military service. Their leadership strengthens correctional institutions, and their resilience inspires the colleagues and communities they serve.

This Veterans Day, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation proudly salutes every member, field representative, and supporter who has served our country. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the families of these veterans, those who stand behind the uniform, at home and at work, every single day.

As an organization built on the principle of “Taking Care of Our Own,” we recognize that service takes many forms. Whether through military service, correctional work, or volunteer work within the CPOF community, these acts of dedication unite us in purpose and compassion.

We invite you to join us in honoring our veteran correctional professionals this Veterans Day. If you are a veteran or work alongside one, we would love to see and share your photos and stories of service. Tag us on Instagram and Facebook (@CPOFoundation) and use #CPOF #TakingCareOfOurOwn #VeteransInCorrections to help us celebrate the courage, commitment, and continued service of those who protect our nation — both in and out of uniform.
