Honor Behind the Badge – Delois Bradford

Delois Bradford and her two brothers lost their mother at the ages of 9,8, and 7 years old. They were then raised by their grandparents. When Delois’ grandparents passed away, this caused her to have to help continue to raise her brothers. She decided she needed a better-paying job, and this is what led her to begin her career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in March 2006, at 22 years old. She has held the ranks of Correctional Officer through Lieutenant and currently holds the position of Captain at the Joe F. Gurney Unit. Delois has also worked with the Training Leadership Division as a Lieutenant and Captain from November 2021 until October 2025.

In August 2015, Delois joined the TDCJ Honor Guard, where she continues to serve as a dedicated member. In 2017, she became a member of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation and went on to become a member of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation National Honor in October 2023. She considers being a member of this prestigious organization her greatest achievement and is truly blessed to be a part of it.

I thank GOD for bringing me this far, and I thank GOD for my family!!!

To all Correctional Staff- as I have said before, to the staff working the units day in and day out, enduring long hours away from your families, and short-handed YOU ARE THE REAL MVP’s and I Thank You!!!
