Matthew Tidman – MCI-Shirley

In August of 2022, Corrections Officer Matthew Tidman at MCI-Shirley was assaulted by an inmate. The inmate picked up a piece of exercise equipment, came up behind Officer Tidman and hit him repeatedly.  Officer Tidman had been with the Massachusetts Department of Correction (MADOC) for 10 1/2 years.

Officer Tidman was flown by medical helicopter and put on life support. There were no answers about his future. He had severe injuries to his skull and his back. Officer Tidman fought for his life. He fought for recovery. Eight weeks later, he received a police escort home. The streets lined with fellow corrections officers and staff, family, friends and supportive community members as Officer Tidman waved from the car.

In June 2023, at PROJECT XXXIV, Officer Tidman was recognized. He walked to the front of a ballroom filled with his correctional family from all across the nation and was recognized for what he went through and what he has accomplished since then.   Officer Tidman, we continue to wish you the best in your recovery and future.  Please watch the video below to learn more about what the recognition luncheon is all about.
