Haight, George W.

On the night of March 27th, 1893 a prisoner prepared the evening meal for prison officers and poisoned it with a mixture of Prussic Acid and Opium as a part of a plan to escape. Gate Keeper George Haight collapsed at his post and died shortly after. The prisoner obtained Keeper Haight’s keys, broke into the prison gun locker and escaped. He was captured 2 days later.
