The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation joins the Arkansas Department of Corrections and the entire law enforcement community in mourning the passing of Sergeant Fredrick T. Coleman, a respected correctional professional whose dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his fellow officers left a lasting impact.
On Thursday, July 31, 2025, Sgt. Coleman tragically suffered a medical incident while on duty at the Cummins Unit in Lincoln County, Arkansas. He was just 45 years old.
Sgt. Coleman began his career with the Arkansas Department of Corrections in 2010, faithfully serving the Cummins Unit for 15 years. Known for his strength, hard work, and generosity of spirit, he was a leader and role model to those who served alongside him. His dedication did not go unnoticed — in 2022, he was awarded the Director’s Outstanding Service Award by Division of Corrections Director Dexter Payne for the valuable work he performed at the facility.
Beyond the uniform, Sgt. Coleman was a devoted husband and father of five, a man deeply committed to his family and community. His loss is felt not only within the walls of the Cummins Unit but also in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1109 North School Street, Dermott, Arkansas. Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with friends, family, colleagues, and community members gathering to honor his life and legacy.
The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation extends our deepest condolences to Sgt. Coleman’s wife, children, family, and the Arkansas DOC family. We stand ready to support them during this difficult time, and we honor Sgt. Coleman’s years of service, sacrifice, and dedication. His memory will forever remain a part of the law enforcement family, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who serve.
