Honoring Retired Correctional Officer Todd Boone

“Service runs deep in the Boone family, and so does love.”

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation honors the life and legacy of Retired Correctional Officer Todd Boone, who passed away on July 2, 2025. A devoted public servant, Todd spent 14 years with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), where his dedication, professionalism, and warm spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Todd began his correctional career in February 1999 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center. After graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in April of that year, he was first assigned to California State Prison, Sacramento, before transferring a few months later to Folsom State Prison. He would serve at Folsom until his retirement in October 2013.

Known for his kind heart and positive attitude, Officer Boone exemplified the values of respect and resilience. His colleagues remember him not only as a capable and reliable officer, but also as someone who brought levity and compassion to a difficult profession.

At a Celebration of Life held on July 27 at the Folsom Moose Lodge, the Folsom State Prison Honor Guard presented the American flag to his mother, Janet Brown. CPOF’s National Honor Guard Team also stood in solemn tribute, reflecting the unity and support of the correctional family. Todd was the stepson of the late Jim Brown, a former CPOF Board Member and Correctional Officer, who passed in 2022. Both men shared a profound commitment to service.

Todd’s legacy is rooted in a family that has long answered the call to protect and serve. His father, Detective Christopher W. Boone of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, was tragically killed in the line of duty on October 25, 1979. While working a surveillance detail to protect a woman who had received threats, Detective Boone confronted the suspect, identified himself as an officer, and attempted an arrest. A struggle ensued, and he was fatally shot with his own service weapon. For his bravery, Detective Boone was posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor.

Todd also endured the loss of his brother, Jeff Boone, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 31. A graduate of Oak Ridge High School, Jeff was deeply loved and is fondly remembered by many family members and friends. The Boone family has weathered immense grief over the years, yet remained committed to honoring one another through lives of service and strength.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation extends our deepest condolences to Janet Brown and the entire Boone-Brown family. We are proud to have stood with you in honoring Todd’s life and legacy. He served with heart, protected with courage, and will be forever remembered.
