Standing With Correctional Officer Benjamin Dahl and His Family

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) exists to ensure that correctional professionals and their families are never left to face life’s most difficult moments alone. Through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, we step in when the unthinkable happens—providing timely, compassionate support so families can focus on what matters most.

Today, we are honored to stand with Correctional Officer Benjamin Dahl of the Moose Lake Correctional Facility and his family during an incredibly challenging time.

Benjamin and his wife, Jessica, are devoted parents to their three sons. Recently, their lives were turned upside down when their 12-year-old son, Liam, was diagnosed with stage 4, aggressive childhood cancer. Liam now faces an intensive 42-week chemotherapy treatment plan, requiring constant medical care, travel, and unwavering family presence.

As a result, Benjamin has been out of work since November 13, with an estimated return in February, creating significant financial strain at a moment when the family’s full attention is needed for Liam’s care and well-being.

This case was referred to CPOF by Captain Crystal Hansen, ensuring the Dahl family could access support through our Catastrophic Assistance Program. Our assistance is designed to help offset unexpected expenses and provide stability during extended medical crises—so families like the Dahls can remain together and focused on healing.

The corrections community is built on strength, service, and family. When one of our own is hurting, we come together.

Please keep Liam, Benjamin, Jessica, and their boys in your thoughts and prayers as they begin this long road of treatment and recovery. CPOF remains committed to standing beside them—every step of the way—because Taking Care of Our Own is more than a motto; it is our mission.
