CPOF Provides Assistance to Teacher Lester Washington After Consecutive House Fires

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) recently had the honor of providing assistance to Teacher Lester Washington of Santa Rosa Correctional Institution (SRCI) in Florida after he endured a devastating and highly unusual tragedy — two house fires in two consecutive days. The first fire occurred on June 24, 2024, followed by a second blaze the very next day, June 25, 2024.

The back-to-back losses left Mr. Washington facing an overwhelming situation, with damage to his home and the personal impact that comes with such sudden and repeated destruction. Recognizing the urgent need for support, Warden Quinn and CPOF Senior Field Representative John Kolodziej referred his case to the Foundation. CPOF quickly approved financial assistance to help him navigate this challenging time and begin the process of recovery.

On behalf of CPOF, John Kolodziej personally delivered the assistance to Mr. Washington. Joining in the presentation was Acting Warden Debbie Jones, who, alongside John, expressed her support and solidarity with a valued member of the SRCI staff.

At CPOF, we believe in “Taking Care of Our Own” — a mission that extends to every correctional professional who dedicates themselves to serving others. In moments of crisis, we strive to ensure that no one in our correctional family faces hardship alone. Mr. Washington’s experience is a reminder of how quickly life can change, and how important it is to have a community ready to step forward with compassion, understanding, and tangible help.
