CPOF Assists Florida State Prison Sergeant Brenda Halle Following the Loss of Her Husband

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation recently provided assistance to Florida State Prison Sergeant Brenda Halle following the passing of her husband, retired Florida Department of Corrections Major Colin Eugene Halle, on May 1, 2026.

Representatives from the Foundation had the opportunity to present assistance to Sgt. Halle during this difficult time, standing alongside her and her family as they mourn the loss of a man whose life was defined by service, leadership, and dedication to both the correctional profession and his community.

Colin Halle’s career in corrections spanned nearly four decades with the Florida Department of Corrections. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in numerous leadership roles and earned a reputation for integrity, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to those who worked alongside him.

A Vietnam War veteran, Colin answered the call to serve both his country and his profession. During his years with the Florida Department of Corrections, he became a respected advocate for correctional professionals, serving as a PBA representative for more than twenty years and playing a pivotal role in efforts to elevate the recognition and standing of correctional officers throughout the state of Florida.

Among his many accomplishments, Colin helped lead the historic “Rally to Tallahassee” and was instrumental in efforts that strengthened retirement benefits and professional recognition for correctional staff. His influence extended far beyond the institutions where he worked, impacting generations of correctional professionals who continue to benefit from his advocacy and leadership.

Colin’s career included service at Union Correctional Institution, where he demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership while supervising one of the state’s most challenging inmate populations. He retired from the Florida Department of Corrections in 2006 with the rank of Major. Never one to stop serving others, he continued his public service with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office for another eight years before retiring at age 75.

While his professional accomplishments were significant, those who knew Colin best remember him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, storyteller, and friend. His warmth, sense of humor, and generosity touched countless lives throughout his 86 years.

Colin is survived by his wife, Brenda; his children; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a large extended family who will continue to carry forward his legacy of service, courage, and compassion.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation extends its deepest condolences to Sgt. Brenda Halle and the entire Halle family. We are honored to stand beside correctional professionals and their families during life’s most difficult moments and remain committed to our mission of “Taking Care of Our Own.”
