At the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation, our mission of Taking Care of Our Own is rooted in standing by our correctional professionals during times of personal hardship. One such moment recently arose for Lieutenant Scott Burnett, who serves at Fremont Correctional Facility in Colorado.
Lt. Burnett’s daughter, Aspen, faced a significant medical challenge that required major surgery. As any parent can imagine, this was a deeply emotional and financially burdensome time for the Burnett family. In moments like these, no one should have to walk alone—and that’s where CPOF steps in.
Through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, we were able to provide financial support to help ease the burden of Aspen’s treatment costs. While our assistance can never replace the emotional weight of such experiences, we hope it brings relief and a reminder that the correctional family stands together.
We are pleased to share that Aspen’s surgery was successful, and she is now on the road to recovery. Her strength and the resilience of her family inspire us all.
To Lt. Burnett and his loved ones: you are not alone. Your extended CPOF family is with you, cheering Aspen on every step of the way.
