The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation recently provided catastrophic assistance to Correctional Officer Justin Ward of Cañon Minimum Centers in Colorado as he continues to face significant medical challenges and an uncertain recovery.

Officer Ward’s medical journey began on January 14, 2025, when he underwent major abdominal surgery. Due to complications following the procedure, he remained hospitalized for an extended period and has continued to face ongoing health concerns. His return-to-work date remains uncertain as he focuses on recovery.

More recently, on May 1, 2026, Officer Ward suffered another serious medical setback while on duty. He temporarily lost consciousness, resulting in a fall that caused a dislocated shoulder and a concussion. Following the incident, he was referred for additional medical evaluation, including an MRI, and may require surgery as part of his treatment and recovery.

The combination of prolonged medical issues, ongoing treatment, and time away from work has created significant financial strain for Officer Ward and his family. Through the generosity of CPOF members and supporters nationwide, the Foundation was honored to provide assistance to help ease some of these burdens during this difficult time.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation extends its support and encouragement to Officer Ward as he continues his recovery journey.
