Correctional Officer Shawn McGuire – Florida

On June 10, 2024, CPOF’s Field Representative John Kolodziej was able to represent CPOF when presenting a catastrophic assistance check to the family of Sergeant Shawn McGuire, a Correctional Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections.

Following his presentation, John shared this with the CPOF office:

“Officer Shawn McGuire from Okaloosa CI in Crestview, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2024.  Shawn was only 37 years old at the time of his passing and had served with the Florida Department of Corrections for over 13 years. The passing of Shawn left a void in many people’s lives.  Everyone who knew Shawn spoke of him kindly and was known for his fairness, work ethic, the love of his family, work family and his beloved dog Scrappy.  As expected, Shawn’s mom and dad were completely caught off guard and unprepared by Shawn’s passing and CPOF was there to provide them with support and assistance.

Shawn’s obituary reads as follows:

Shawn Terrell McGuire 37 of Laurel Hill, Florida passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, peacefully at his home. Shawn was born on April 8, 1987 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to Michael and Glenda McGuire.

Shawn was a Correctional Officer (Sergeant) for the Florida Department of Corrections who was easygoing and loved the outdoors.
