James Brown

Mr. Brown began his Correctional career in 1970 with the California Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer at Folsom State Prison, Represa, CA.  He promoted through the ranks also working at California State Prison-Sacramento, Pelican Bay State Prison and Centinela State Prison. He retired as Lieutenant from Folsom State Prison in 2002 with more than 32 years of service.

Mr. Brown was an active member of CPOF, California Correctional Peace Officer Association Retired Chapter, International Police Association and Northern California Peace Officer Association. Jim took over Operations Manager of the Retired Correctional Peace Officers Museum at Folsom Prison in 2001.

Jim Brown was loyal, honest, and protective. These qualities served him well in corrections, but there is more to Mr. Brown than Corrections. He enjoyed running the Folsom State Prison Museum. He valued history and was a lifelong learner. He also was a creative person. He was a writer, a published author, and an artist. Jim could draw, paint, bake, and decorate cakes well. He was humble and would never label himself as being any of these things, but it is the truth.

Mr. Brown passed suddenly in the summer of 2022.  CPOF misses and remembers him fondly.
