CPOF Catastrophic Assistance Program Supports Officer Mike Tijerina

One of the core missions of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) is to provide direct, meaningful support to correctional professionals in times of personal crisis. Through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, we are able to stand beside members facing sudden medical emergencies, accidents, or other life-altering events—helping to ease the financial burden so they can focus on recovery.

In June 2025, Supporting Member Correctional Officer V Mike Tijerina of the Estelle Unit underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon. The procedure, while necessary, brought with it significant out-of-pocket medical expenses. To help alleviate this strain, CPOF provided financial assistance, ensuring that Officer Tijerina could concentrate on his health and rehabilitation without the added weight of unexpected bills.

In the photo, CO Mike Tijerina is pictured with CPOF Field Representative Cathy Stokes, who presented the assistance on behalf of the Foundation.

CPOF’s Catastrophic Assistance Program is funded entirely through the generosity of our members and supporters. Every contribution makes it possible for us to respond quickly when one of our own faces hardship. Whether it’s an injury, illness, natural disaster, or other unforeseen event, our commitment remains the same: Taking Care of Our Own.
