At the heart of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation’s mission is the unwavering commitment to “Take Care of Our Own.” That promise was once again honored as CPOF provided catastrophic assistance to Correctional Officer Richard Delane Williamson Jr. of Suwannee Correctional Institution (SCI) following the sudden and tragic passing of his beloved son, Richard Delane “Delane” Williamson III.
Delane, just 26 years old, passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2025. A lifelong resident of Lake City, Florida, he was known for his deep love of the outdoors, spending time with family, and his passion for hunting and fishing. He was a proud member of the Ducks Unlimited Chapter and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) in Lake City. Delane worked diligently in the construction and paving industry, most recently with Norton’s Home Improvement and Bubba’s Site Prep and Paving.
Above all else, Delane was a devoted father, fiancé, son, and brother. He leaves behind his precious daughter, Ava Rose Williamson, and his fiancée, Brianna Palmer. He is also survived by a large and loving family that includes his parents—Officer Richard Williamson Jr. and Eva Greene—his siblings, grandparents, great-grandmother, and many aunts, uncles, and extended family members.
In the face of such heartbreaking loss, the CPOF was proud to provide support and stand with Officer Williamson and his family. Pictured at the time of assistance are Lt. S. Harris, Officer T. Williamson, and Colonel W. Billingsley of Suwannee Correctional Institution, who joined in offering comfort and solidarity on behalf of the correctional community.
Catastrophic assistance is a core part of the Foundation’s mission—providing financial aid and emotional support to correctional professionals and their families during life’s most devastating moments. Whether due to death, illness, natural disaster, or personal tragedy, CPOF stands ready to help ease the burden and remind our heroes and their families that they are never alone.
To the Williamson family: you have our deepest condolences. We are honored to stand beside you and to uphold Delane’s memory with compassion and care.
If you know of a correctional professional or family in need of catastrophic assistance, please reach out to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation. Together, we remain committed to supporting those who serve.
