The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) was honored to present a scholarship to Allie Conover, daughter of Kentucky Department of Corrections employee Janet Conover. The award was delivered in person at the Kentucky Central Office by CPOF Board of Directors Secretary Kim Potter-Blair.
Allie is currently a sophomore at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, where she is pursuing an English major with double minors in Creative Writing and Film Studies. A Louisville native, Allie spoke passionately in her scholarship essay about the academic journey that led her to rediscover her love for reading and writing—passions that now guide her college career.
“I put my academics before anything else in my college life,” Allie shared, reflecting on her dedication. “I am often in the library or in the common area of my dorm hall doing my schoolwork.”
Beyond academics, Allie is deeply involved in campus life. She is a proud member of the Tau Omega chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi, where she supports causes such as the National Arthritis Foundation and the Lexington Humane Society. She is also an editor for The Transylvanian, the university’s art and literature magazine—a role that blends her love for the written word with her creative aspirations.
Allie’s essay painted a vivid picture of a young woman deeply committed to her education, friendships, and artistic growth. Whether engaging in spirited movie nights with her suitemates or combing through shelves at Half Price Books, her enthusiasm for creativity is ever-present.
“Creativity is the value I hold closest to my heart,” she wrote. “I feel incredibly lucky to have parents that encourage and support my interests rather than tell me I should study something that may make me more money in the future. They understand that I cannot operate in an environment where I cannot fundamentally be myself.”
The CPOF is proud to support Allie as she continues her academic and creative journey. Her drive, talent, and heartfelt appreciation for the support of her family reflect the very spirit of our scholarship program: to invest in the future of those who have grown up in the correctional community.
Congratulations, Allie! We look forward to seeing where your creativity and dedication take you next.
