When life takes an unexpected turn, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) stands ready to step in—providing critical support through its Catastrophic Assistance Program.
Recently, Sgt. Jesus Muniz, a dedicated staff member at the Estelle Unit in Texas, experienced a deeply personal crisis. His daughter, Marissa, was born prematurely on January 5, 2025, and spent 26 days in the hospital. The emotional toll was great, and the resulting hospital expenses placed a significant financial strain on the family.
Through the Foundation’s Catastrophic Assistance Program, a request for help was submitted on Sgt. Muniz’s behalf. In keeping with the CPOF mission of “Taking Care of Our Own,” Field Representative Cathy Stokes personally delivered an assistance check to Sgt. Muniz—offering not only financial relief, but a message of care, compassion, and solidarity from the entire CPOF community.
Cathy’s visit served as a reminder that in moments of hardship, no correctional staff member stands alone. The Catastrophic Assistance Program continues to be a lifeline for families like the Muniz family, ensuring that when the unexpected happens, support is never far behind.
