Correctional Officer Phillip Kenneth Curry – EOW: December 13, 1994

30 years ago,  Correctional Officer Phillip Curry was stabbed to death on the third tier of D Cellhouse at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

As prisoners were being returned to their cells after dinner, Correctional Officer Curry was stabbed in the neck and heart with a shank. He died shortly after being transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City.

The 25-year-old inmate, who was serving two 20-year terms for rape and criminal deviate conduct, was later found guilty of murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Correctional Officer Curry, from Gary, was survived by his daughter, two sons, mother and fiancée. He had been a Correctional Officer for 18 months.
