On April 10th, Maintenance Foreman Michael Keel was supervising an inmate work crew inside the steel shop when an inmate began a verbal argument with Foreman Keel. The inmate grabbed a piece of steel pipe and hit Foreman Keel in the head as he was walking away from the inmate, causing head trauma. Maintenance Foreman Keel was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition where he underwent emergency brain surgery. He died 2 days later.

Correctional Maintenance Foreman Michael Keel served the Indiana Department of Correction for 29 years.
