Mr. James Ty Capps, age 65, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12, 2024, in Madison, Florida.
James Ty Capps was born January 9, 1959, in Portsmouth Virginia to James Merritt Capps and Bettie Frances Applewhite Capps. He was a Major for the Florida Department of Corrections in Madison, Florida. He was a bodybuilder and enjoyed lifting weights. He loved to cook, build, and watch football and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. The biggest thing he loved was spending time with his family.
Mr. Capps was a long-time employee of the Florida Department of Corrections. He retired from FDOC and later returned to work in boot repair. He woke up feeling ill one day but in good spirits. As the day progressed, he felt worse. When he struggled to breathe, rescue was called to his house. It was determined that he needed to be transported to the hospital for care. Mr. Capps died before making it to the hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Bettie Capps. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Capps of Madison, Florida; his 4 children Tylyn Stansel of Live Oak, Florida, James Ty Capps II (Melissa) of Jasper, Florida, Lindsay McLeod of Madison, Florida, and Dillon Pickles (Dominique) of Lake City, Florida; 2 brothers Ronnie Capps (Sharon) of Live Oak, Florida and Ray Capps (Kanoye) of Lake City, Florida; 10 grandchildren Hayleigh, Ty, Annie, Logan, Kenley, Amber, Austin, Abby, Brantley, and Hudson who is expected in May; and his great grandchild Liam.
