Deputy Sheriff Daniel Kin was transporting an inmate in a Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office Transport Van, when they were struck on the driver side door by a truck that failed to yield at an intersection.
Deputy Kin suffered major injuries and was flown via med-flight to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Deputy Sheriff Daniel Kin had served the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office for one year. He started his career in law enforcement at Carey Police Department and continued his profession at the Seneca County Sheriff Department for seven years.
Deputy Kin married his wife, Erin, on September 10, 2016. They built a life together with their children, Jaxon and Arlo.
A family man, dedicated to his community, Deputy Kin is survived by his father and six sisters in addition to his wife and children. While in high school, Deputy Kin was a member of the FFA and served on the Wyandot County Junior Fair Board. He continued his academics at Terra State Community College and graduated from the Police Academy.
“He just had a positive outlook on life. He also had a legendary mustache which he was very proud of. I think it just put everybody in a good mood. He was just a great fit when he came to our office,” said Wyandot County Sheriff Todd Frey.
“This is his hometown. He grew up in Wyandot County. He graduated from Mohawk High School. This was pretty much his dream job to be in his home county,” said the sheriff.
Along with working law enforcement, he and his father were grain and livestock farmers. Deputy Kin especially enjoyed working with cattle, being outdoors, cutting firewood, and mushroom hunting.
Dave Yose, Ohio Attorney General issued a statement regarding Deputy Kin’s death “Time and tears will not wash away the grief created by the loss of Deputy Kin. My deepest condolences are with this deputy’s family and his family in blue. I am forever grateful for everyone who answers the call to serve and protect.”
