Detention Sergeant Russell Jones

Detention Sergeant Russell Jones, 36, lost his life in the line of duty after suffering a medical emergency in the Detention Center on Wednesday, Dec. 6, according to the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office.

 

On Dec. 6, Detention Sergeant Russell Jones was trying to subdue an inmate when he was punched in the face, ODMP reports. Fifteen minutes later, Jones collapsed and was later pronounced dead.

 

According to Pamlico County Sheriff Chris Davis, Detention Sergeant Russell Jones joined the sheriff’s office in June 2019. He completed his DOCC certification that same year and received his North Carolina General Detention Officer certification in July 2020.

 

Detention Sergeant Russell Jones is survived by his mother and two sisters.

“Officer Jones demonstrated unwavering commitment to serving his community and fellow officers. He will never be forgotten,” Davis said in a statement.

 

On Thursday, December 14th, the CPOF National Honor Guard Team, Chairman Ron Barnes, Vice-Chairman Don Dease and North Carolina field representatives Laura Matthews and Scott Bauer traveled with CPOF’s Line of Duty Death Benefits Coordinator to the services of Detention Sergeant Russell Jones. They, along with the Honor Guard Teams from around the area and nation, paid respect to Detention Sergeant Russell Jones.
