Correctional Officer I Robert Clark died after being assaulted by an inmate with a homemade weapon at the Smith State Prison in Georgia.

He was escorting two prisoners from the dining hall when he was attacked him from behind with a homemade weapon. One of the prisoners attempted to stop the attack but was also assaulted and injured before the attacker was subdued. Officer Clark and the wounded inmate were both transported to a local hospital where Officer Clark succumbed to his wounds.

He was born on June 19, 1981, in Ft. Stewart, GA. Officer Clark led a remarkable life filled with selflessness, bravery, and a commitment to justice.

He worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections for 6 months prior to his death. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he had a wide array of interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He had a particular fondness for strategy games that allowed him to exercise his sharp intellect. Additionally, he shared an extraordinary bond with animals; his beloved 17 dogs, 6 cats, chickens, and ducks were his cherished companions.

Officer Clark is survived by his mother, two brothers, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his father and two sisters.

The Correctional Peace Officers National Honor Guard was joined by Georgia Field Representative Vanessa O’Donnell for the viewing and services of Officer Clark.
