In March of 2023, tornados swept through Mississippi and Louisiana and caused unprecedented destruction. Correctional Peace Officers Foundation’s field representative Vanessa Lee was there for those affected and shared her experience after meeting with many affected by the 64 seconds of destruction.
Postal Inspector Supervisor Joyce Liddell of Central MS Correctional Facility was deeply affected by this storm. Her home was destroyed when the tornado caused two trees to fall on it. This left and her family homeless. As she struggles along with so many to find another home and replace the items she had lost, CPOF was there to assist her.
Preliminary assessments have shown that 313 structures in Mississippi were destroyed and more than 1,000 were affected in some way. This in a state where housing was already difficult to find. It is predicted that it will take several years for the areas to be rebuilt.
Thank you to our supporting membership. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to be there for our Correctional Staff during their catastrophic emergencies.
