Correctional Officer Alma Zavala died on March 15, 2008 due to complications from Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Pneumonia (MRSA). There is a strong possibility that as a result of the prison work environment Correctional Officer Zavala contracted MRSA while working at the prison. Correctional Officer Zavala had served with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for 12 years. Officer Zavala is survived by her adult daughter Brenda and grandson Aaron.
