Building relationships, strengthening the correctional family, and carrying CPOF’s mission into the future.
Every correctional professional begins their career somewhere. For some, it starts in a training academy. For others, it begins with their first day inside a correctional institution, probation or parole office, or another essential role supporting the correctional system.
Regardless of their position, these individuals are becoming part of a profession built on dedication, responsibility, and service. They are also becoming part of a much larger correctional family.
At the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF), we believe that introducing new employees to the importance of membership early in their careers helps build a stronger foundation of support for years to come.
Building Connections from Day One
Across the country, CPOF field representatives and volunteers are working to ensure that new correctional employees understand they have a community standing behind them.
Through academy orientations, new employee presentations, membership drives, and personal conversations, our representatives share the Foundation’s mission and explain how CPOF assists correctional professionals and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
These conversations are about more than completing a membership application. They are about building relationships, establishing trust, and making sure employees know where to turn when unexpected hardships arise.
Growing Our Reach Across the Country
Recent efforts in several states demonstrate the dedication of those carrying CPOF’s mission forward.
In Texas, field representatives and volunteers are developing coordinated outreach efforts to introduce more correctional employees to the Foundation and strengthen membership throughout the state.
In Nevada, new volunteer representatives are already establishing opportunities to connect with employees through academy and orientation programs. Their enthusiasm and commitment reflect the importance of having individuals who understand the correctional profession and believe in supporting those who serve.
In New York and throughout the country, representatives continue building relationships with correctional facilities, staff, and departments, helping ensure CPOF remains a familiar and trusted resource.
Each conversation, presentation, and new membership represents another opportunity to strengthen the correctional family.
One Correctional Family, Many Important Roles
One of the most important messages we share with new employees is that CPOF is not just for correctional officers.
Correctional institutions and agencies depend on professionals serving in many different capacities. From custody and security staff to administrative personnel, healthcare professionals, maintenance teams, food service employees, and other essential positions, every role contributes to the operation of the correctional system.
CPOF membership is available to eligible correctional employees across job classifications, not just those who wear a uniform or work directly in custody positions. Eligibility is subject to the Foundation’s membership requirements, including its exclusion of private-prison employees.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that the correctional family extends beyond any single title or assignment.
Preparing for the Future, Honoring Our Mission
As experienced correctional professionals retire and new generations enter the workforce, sharing CPOF’s history and purpose becomes increasingly important.
The Foundation was built on the understanding that correctional professionals and their families deserve support when tragedy or catastrophic circumstances strike. That commitment continues today through catastrophic assistance, line-of-duty death support, scholarship opportunities, and programs that honor the service and sacrifices of the correctional community.
Our field representatives and volunteers play a vital role in carrying that commitment forward. They are often the first personal connection a new employee has with CPOF, and their efforts help ensure the Foundation’s mission continues to reach those who may someday need it.
The next generation of corrections is already stepping forward. Through continued outreach, education, and membership, we can help make sure they never have to face life’s greatest challenges alone.
Because at CPOF, membership is more than joining an organization. It is becoming part of a family that stands together.
