End of Watch: June 30, 2025
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office | Murphy, North Carolina
As we continue to honor the correctional professionals who made the ultimate sacrifice, we pause to remember Sergeant Francisco Paul Flattes, II of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Although more than a year has passed since his End of Watch, his service, sacrifice, and legacy remain firmly etched in the hearts of his family, fellow officers, and the correctional profession.
Sergeant Flattes dedicated his life to serving others with integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Those who knew him remember a man whose booming laugh could fill a room, who never met a stranger, and who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether he was known as Francisco, Cisco, Chico, Poppie, or simply a friend, he left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Tresia, a loving father and grandfather, and a steadfast supporter who encouraged those around him to pursue their dreams. His kindness, generosity, and selfless spirit created a legacy that continues to inspire those he leaves behind.
Earlier this summer, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation was deeply honored to recognize Sergeant Flattes during PROJECT XXXVII in Salt Lake City, Utah, where correctional professionals from across the United States gathered to honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2025. It was our privilege to welcome Tresia and the Flattes family as we remembered Francisco’s extraordinary life, service, and sacrifice alongside families from across the nation.
Although time has passed since that tragic day, Sergeant Flattes’ sacrifice will never be forgotten. His name now stands among the correctional heroes whose courage and dedication will forever be remembered by the profession he served so faithfully.
Please join us in continuing to remember Sergeant Francisco Paul Flattes, II. Keep Tresia, his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts and prayers.
At the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation, we remain committed to Taking Care of Our Own and ensuring that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes—and the families they leave behind—are never forgotten.
