Honoring Andrew Kotalik’s Legacy Through Giving Back

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is honored to receive a generous donation from the family and friends of Correctional Officer Andrew Kotalik following a memorial poker run held in his honor.

Organized by Andrew’s wife, Cami Kotalik, the event brought together family, friends, coworkers, and supporters to celebrate Andrew’s life while raising funds to help other correctional professionals and their families facing tragedy.

Through the generosity of everyone who attended, the poker run raised approximately $2,000, all of which will be donated to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation.

After Andrew’s passing, CPOF was privileged to stand beside the Kotalik family during one of life’s most difficult moments. Their decision to give back so that other correctional families can receive the same support is a powerful reminder of what our mission, Taking Care of Our Own, truly means.

“I wanted to say thank you for all you and your organization helped with two years ago when my husband Andrew Kotalik passed,” Cami shared. “We are hosting a poker run benefit and will be donating all proceeds to the organization as a thank you and to support other families and correctional officers.”

One of the most touching moments from the event was seeing Andrew’s daughter, Avery, surrounded by staff from Mike Durfee State Prison who attended the poker run in support of her family. Their presence reflected the strength of the corrections community and the lasting bonds that continue long after a loss.

Every donation received by CPOF allows us to continue providing immediate financial assistance and compassionate support to correctional officers and their families following line-of-duty deaths, catastrophic injuries, natural disasters, and other unforeseen hardships.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Cami, Avery, everyone who participated in the poker run, and all those who contributed to making this event a success. Your generosity ensures that Andrew’s legacy of service and compassion will continue to make a difference in the lives of correctional families across the country.

From all of us at the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation—thank you for helping us continue Taking Care of Our Own.
