Sometimes the challenges we face become the inspiration for the careers we choose.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Mollie Gillis as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

This fall, Mollie will attend Texas A&M University–Texarkana, where she plans to study Kinesiology or Exercise Science. Her goal is to help others prevent injuries, recover successfully, and achieve healthier, stronger lives.

Throughout high school, Mollie balanced academics with her dedication to softball, a sport that taught her resilience, discipline, and the importance of teamwork. Like many athletes, she also experienced injuries along the way—experiences that ultimately shaped her future career aspirations.

“I know what it feels like to be on the sidelines through frustration or rebuilding strength. Because of this, I want to help others prevent injuries whenever possible and support them through recovery when injuries do happen.”

Beyond the softball field, Mollie strives to live by the values of kindness, integrity, and determination. She believes that character is demonstrated through everyday actions and that success comes from consistently supporting those around you.

As the daughter of Todd Gillis, who serves at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, Mollie understands the importance of commitment, perseverance, and serving others.
