For Lydia Essary, success is measured not only by academic achievement, but by a life lived in service to others.
The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Lydia Essary as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.
A graduate of Ector High School, Lydia will attend East Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she plans to pursue a career in nursing. Her ultimate goal is to earn a master’s degree specializing in neonatal nursing, combining compassionate care with her desire to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families.
Throughout high school, Lydia balanced an impressive schedule of academics, athletics, and service. Ranked second in her graduating class, she maintained a 4.0 college GPA through dual-credit coursework while participating in volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, track, softball, UIL, Beta Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Outside the classroom, Lydia has been actively involved in her church from an early age, serving through Vacation Bible School, children’s ministry, community outreach, and other ministries that have shaped her commitment to serving others.
“The main aspect of my life that I want to be remembered for is my walk with Jesus.”
Looking ahead, Lydia hopes not only to become a neonatal nurse but also to participate in medical mission trips around the world, using both her faith and her profession to care for others wherever she is called.
As the daughter of Dan Essary, who has dedicated 29 years of service to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Lydia understands the importance of perseverance, commitment, and serving something greater than yourself.
The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is honored to invest in students like Lydia whose academic excellence, servant’s heart, and unwavering faith are preparing her to make a meaningful impact on countless lives.
Congratulations, Lydia! We wish you every success as you pursue your calling in nursing and service.
