The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Alyssen Esparza as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

Alyssen, the daughter of Miguel Angel Esparza of the Segovia Unit with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, is continuing her education at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley as she works toward her dream of becoming a nurse.

This year marks Alyssen’s second CPOF scholarship, reflecting her continued dedication to higher education and her commitment to pursuing a career centered on caring for others.

The CPOF Scholarship Program is designed to do more than help students begin their college journey—it helps them continue that journey as they work toward achieving their goals. Returning recipients like Alyssen demonstrate the lasting impact these scholarships can have as students progress through college and prepare for meaningful careers.

Following the presentation of her scholarship, Alyssen shared a heartfelt note of appreciation with the Foundation:

“I wanted to take the time to thank you for awarding me the 2026 Dave Romay Scholarship Award. I am truly grateful for your generosity and support. This scholarship will be a huge help in covering the cost of my college education and will allow me to focus more on my studies and future goals. Thank you again for investing in my education and helping me work toward my dream of becoming a nurse.”

Her words are a wonderful reminder of what this program represents—not simply financial assistance, but an investment in the future of correctional families and the next generation of professionals who will go on to serve their communities.
