Scholarship Spotlight: Kaitlyn Campbell

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Kaitlyn Campbell as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.

Kaitlyn, the daughter of Darrell Campbell of LSCI Allenwood in Pennsylvania, will attend Pennsylvania College of Technology this fall to pursue a degree in Radiological Sciences, with the goal of becoming an X-ray technologist.

For Kaitlyn, healthcare is more than a career—it is deeply personal.

Born with Gorlin Syndrome, a rare genetic condition, Kaitlyn has spent much of her life navigating surgeries, routine medical screenings, and the uncertainty that often accompanies chronic health conditions. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she learned to advocate for herself while facing challenges that many people do not experience until much later in life.

Rather than allowing those experiences to define her, Kaitlyn chose to let them shape her future.

In her scholarship essay, she reflects on the countless X-rays, medical appointments, and procedures she has undergone, particularly after multiple unexpected foot surgeries. What once felt like setbacks gradually became opportunities to develop resilience, patience, and empathy.

Those experiences also introduced her to the radiologic technologists whose calm demeanor and compassionate care left a lasting impression.

“I want to study Radiological Sciences to become an X-ray Tech. I’ve had a great deal of X-rays myself, so I can relate to others who may be experiencing what I have and provide empathy for those challenging times.”

Watching those professionals explain procedures with kindness and reassurance inspired Kaitlyn to pursue a career where she can offer the same comfort to others. She understands firsthand how important accurate imaging is to diagnosis and treatment, but she also knows that the compassion shown during those moments can be just as meaningful as the technology itself.

Growing up with ongoing medical care taught Kaitlyn to see patients as people first. She hopes to use her experiences to help others feel less anxious and more confident during difficult moments, providing not only technical excellence but genuine understanding.

Outside of school, Kaitlyn enjoys traveling with her family to historic sites, including presidential homes and Civil War battlefields. Those experiences have strengthened her appreciation for history, encouraged lifelong learning, and reinforced the importance of understanding the stories that shape our lives.

This scholarship will help ease the financial burden of pursuing her education, allowing Kaitlyn to focus on achieving her dream of becoming a healthcare professional who combines knowledge, compassion, and empathy in every patient interaction.

We are honored to support Kaitlyn as she begins this exciting new chapter and look forward to the difference she will make in the lives of countless patients throughout her career.
