The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is proud to recognize Clarice Barr as a 2026 CPOF scholarship recipient.
Clarice, the daughter of Christopher Barr of the Colorado Department of Corrections, is continuing her education at Pueblo Community College while already making a difference in the lives of others every day. As a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Restorative Aide at Skyline Ridge Nursing Home, she has found her passion in caring for others and is working toward a future in either Radiologic Technology or Respiratory Therapy.
For Clarice, healthcare is more than a career—it is a calling rooted in compassion.
In her scholarship essay, she shared that working in long-term care has been both rewarding and challenging. Through the relationships she has built with residents and coworkers, she has learned that compassion is one of the most important qualities a healthcare professional can possess. Every day, she has the opportunity to provide comfort, dignity, and support to those who depend on her, strengthening her desire to continue serving others in the medical field.
Clarice’s own experiences as a patient have also helped shape her career goals. After sustaining injuries while participating in high school athletics, she underwent extensive medical treatment and physical therapy and knows that surgery will likely be part of her future. Those experiences inspired her to pursue a profession where she can care for others with the same kindness and dedication she received throughout her own recovery.
Her journey has already been marked by determination and exceptional perseverance. Clarice began taking college classes during her sophomore year of high school while balancing academics, athletics, and part-time employment. She played softball, basketball, and golf, all while working at Jimmy John’s and continuing her college coursework.
One of her proudest accomplishments came in May 2025, when she earned her Associate of General Studies degree from Pueblo Community College one day before graduating from Florence Junior/Senior High School. Balancing high school, college, sports, and work required discipline, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to her goals—qualities that continue to define her today.
Now, Clarice is preparing for the next chapter of her education as she awaits acceptance into either the Radiology or Respiratory Therapy program at Pueblo Community College. Regardless of which path she follows, her purpose remains the same: to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients by providing skilled, compassionate care when they need it most.
This scholarship will help offset the cost of tuition and books while allowing Clarice to continue pursuing her education without taking on unnecessary debt—something that reflects the values her parents instilled in her from an early age.
We are honored to support Clarice as she continues building a career dedicated to improving the lives of others through compassion, perseverance, and service.
