Honoring Gabrielle Lewis: Standing with Officer William Lewis and His Family

At the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation, our mission of Taking Care of Our Own extends beyond the walls of our facilities and into the lives of the families who stand behind those who serve.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the story of Corrections Officer I William Lewis of the Ozark Corrections Center, who recently experienced the unimaginable loss of his daughter, Gabrielle “Gabi” Jeanine Lewis, on April 2, 2026.

Gabi was just 28 years old. She was known for her vibrant spirit, her creativity, and her ability to bring light into the lives of those around her. She loved expressing herself through bright makeup and fashion, and she had a special talent for crocheting—often creating meaningful pieces for friends and family. Above all else, Gabi cherished time with her two children, who were the center of her world.

She is survived by her children, Thaddeus and Asuna; her father, Officer William Lewis; her siblings, Marsha Middleton, Tempest Lewis, April Lewis, and her younger brother, Bill “Bean” Tortogo Lewis. She is preceded in death by her mother, Tracey.

In the wake of this profound loss, the Foundation stepped in through our Catastrophic Assistance Program to support Officer Lewis and his family during this incredibly difficult time. While no support can ease the pain of losing a child, it is our hope that standing beside the Lewis family helps carry even a small part of the burden they now face.

This is what it means to be part of the corrections family.

Every day, correctional professionals show up for others, often in challenging and unseen ways. And when tragedy strikes one of our own, we come together to ensure they are not alone in their time of need.

Officer Lewis has dedicated his career to serving others. In this moment, we are honored to serve him.

Because when the call comes, we answer.
