Hello, my name is Steven Perrine. I commenced my career with the Oregon Department of Corrections in 1995 and retired in 2020. Over the span of 25 years in service, I held various positions on several specialized teams and instructor training roles, including: serving on the Oregon Department of Corrections Honor Guard team for 15 years, being a member of the Field Training Officer team for a decade, and fulfilling the roles of Defensive Tactics Instructor for 12 years, Taser Instructor for 2 years, and First Aid/CPR Instructor for 2 years.
I served in the United States Army and the Oregon National Guard from 1987 to 1995. During my tenure in the United States Army, I was classified as a 13Bravo (Cannon Crewmember). My responsibilities encompassed, but were not limited to, operating, loading, and firing M1A1 howitzers to provide long-range artillery support for ground forces. While serving in the Oregon National Guard, my classification was 88 Mike (Motor Transport Operator), where I was tasked with driving and maintaining heavy wheeled vehicles, as well as transporting personnel, cargo, and ammunition.
My introduction to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation occurred in 1994, following the tragic loss of my father, Officer Louis Steven Perrine, who was killed in an accident while on duty. The CPOF staff graciously responded to my mother’s home, offering assistance with any needs she had. In 1995, I attended my inaugural Project 2000 event in Portland, Oregon, where my father was honored. The profound impact of this event ignited my desire to become involved with the organization. Witnessing the Honor Guard teams representing their respective states and paying tribute to our fallen comrades and their surviving families profoundly moved me. In 2012, I had the honor of being interviewed and subsequently joining the CPOF National Honor Guard team.
I take immense pride in being the father of five grown children and the grandfather of nine.
I relish the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, as well as traveling.
