The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) is honored to stand beside Correctional Officer Adam Ismail of Charlotte Correctional Institution in Florida during a difficult and uncertain time for him and his family.
On February 9, 2026, Officer Ismail suffered a heart attack that has significantly impacted his ability to work and provide for his family. As of February 22, 2026, he entered Leave Without Pay (LWOP) status, and at this time, his return-to-work date remains unknown as he continues to focus on his recovery.
Officer Ismail is not only a dedicated correctional professional, but also a father to two young children who rely on him each and every day. Situations like these serve as a powerful reminder that the challenges correctional staff face are not limited to the facility—they extend into their homes and impact entire families.
With a recommendation from Warden David Carson, and in coordination with staff at Charlotte CI, CPOF has provided financial assistance to help ease the burden during this critical time. A check was issued in support of Officer Ismail and his family, ensuring that they have one less worry as he focuses on healing.
The strength of the corrections community continues to shine through, as Captain Emily Gerack and Lieutenant Carmen Rua were by Officer Ismail’s side at the hospital—demonstrating the unwavering support and brotherhood that defines this profession.
At CPOF, we remain committed to Taking Care of Our Own. When one of our own faces hardship, we stand ready to respond—because no correctional professional or their family should face these moments alone.
We ask that you keep Officer Ismail and his family in your thoughts as he continues his recovery.
