Standing Beside Sgt. Robert Taylor

Catastrophic Assistance Story

In corrections, danger is never far away.

On February 1, 2026, Sgt. Robert Taylor of Dick Conner Correctional Center in Oklahoma experienced that reality firsthand.

A Violent Incident

While performing his duties, Sgt. Taylor was attacked by an inmate armed with a prison-made weapon.

He sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper arm, chin, and the back of his head—serious injuries that required immediate medical attention.

In an instant, a routine day turned into a life-threatening situation.

The Aftermath

Surviving the attack was only the beginning.

The physical recovery is demanding—but the emotional and mental toll of such an incident can be just as difficult.

For correctional professionals like Sgt. Taylor, returning to work after an assault is not just about healing wounds—it’s about rebuilding a sense of safety, confidence, and normalcy.

Answering the Call

Following the incident, a referral was made on Sgt. Taylor’s behalf, and the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation stepped in to provide catastrophic assistance.

This support helps ease the financial burden during recovery—allowing officers and their families to focus on healing, rather than hardship.

But beyond the financial assistance, it sends a powerful message:

You are not alone.

A Brotherhood That Shows Up

Sgt. Taylor’s story is one shared by many in this profession—where courage is required daily, and risks are often unseen by the outside world.

In the face of adversity, the correctional community comes together—standing behind one another, offering strength, and providing support when it’s needed most.

Sgt. Taylor’s recovery is ongoing, and like many who have faced similar incidents, his journey will take time.

But he does not walk it alone.

He carries with him the support of a profession that stands together—through every challenge, every recovery, and every step forward.

Taking Care of Our Own—because no one should face this alone.
