CPOF Provides Assistance to Family of Florida Correctional Officer Following Tragic Loss

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) recently provided catastrophic assistance to the family of Correctional Officer Michelle Kinsey of the Lancaster Correctional Institution in Florida.

Officer Kinsey tragically lost her life on December 18, 2025, in a single-vehicle accident. Her passing was a devastating loss for her family, friends, and the colleagues who served alongside her.

In the wake of this tragedy, CPOF was honored to stand beside Officer Kinsey’s loved ones and the Florida Department of Corrections family. Through the Foundation’s catastrophic assistance program, support was provided to help her family during this incredibly difficult time.

CPOF assistance was presented by Warden Shannon Varnes of Lancaster Correctional Institution to Thor Kinsey, Officer Kinsey’s spouse, on behalf of the Foundation and the corrections community that stands together in times of need.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation was founded on the belief that when tragedy strikes within the corrections profession, the family behind the uniform should never stand alone. Our mission remains to support correctional staff and their families during times of crisis, loss, and hardship.

CPOF extends our deepest condolences to the family of Officer Michelle Kinsey and to the entire Lancaster Correctional Institution team. Her service and dedication to the profession will not be forgotten.
