Standing With Sgt. Tabitha Lane-Davis

Catastrophic Assistance in Action at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation exists for one simple but powerful reason — to take care of our own when they need it most. Through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, we are able to stand beside correctional professionals facing unexpected hardship, offering both financial support and something just as important: reassurance that they are not alone.

Recently, CPOF had the honor of assisting Sergeant Tabitha Lane-Davis of Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in Oklahoma.

Sgt. Lane-Davis was injured during a use-of-force incident, sustaining injuries to her wrist and hand that required surgery. As with many line-of-duty injuries, the physical impact was immediate — but the financial and emotional strain that follows can be just as overwhelming. An incident report was submitted, and after review, assistance was recommended.

Thanks to the outreach and advocacy of Sergeant Laura Cote, Sgt. Lane-Davis’s close friend and a CPOF member, the request for assistance was brought forward. The case was also supported locally by Chief of Security Robin Catcher, ensuring Sgt. Lane-Davis received the help she deserved.

Last Friday, CPOF representatives had the privilege of presenting catastrophic assistance directly to Sgt. Lane-Davis. The moment was made even more meaningful by the presence of those who stood beside her throughout the process — Sergeant Laura Cote and Chief Robin Catcher — a powerful reminder of the strength found in correctional family and community.

And in a moment that perfectly reflects the spirit of this program, Sgt. Lane-Davis chose to join CPOF as a member.

“I like it when that happens,” one representative shared — because it speaks volumes about trust, connection, and shared purpose.

The Catastrophic Assistance Program is about more than providing financial relief. It’s about showing up. It’s about listening. And it’s about ensuring that when correctional professionals are injured, overwhelmed, or facing uncertainty, they know someone is standing with them.

We are grateful to everyone who played a role in supporting Sgt. Lane-Davis — from those who made the referral, to those who stood beside her at the presentation, to every CPOF member whose support makes moments like this possible.

💙 This is what it means to take care of our own.
