Standing With Our Correctional Family: Catastrophic Assistance for Captain Smith

At the heart of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is a simple but powerful belief: no correctional professional should face life’s darkest moments alone. Through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, we remain committed to supporting the correctional family during times of profound hardship, loss, and unexpected crisis.

Recently, CPOF was honored to assist Captain Smith of Century Correctional Institution following the passing of his father on October 17, 2025. This heartbreaking loss deeply affected Captain Smith and his family, and we were grateful to receive the referral from Warden Flores and National Director John Kolodziej so that support could be provided quickly and respectfully.

This program is made possible because of the ongoing dedication of our members, volunteers, and correctional partners nationwide. Each referral, each connection, and each expression of support allows us to continue Taking Care of Our Own in meaningful and compassionate ways.

To Captain Smith and his family, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find peace, comfort, and strength as you move forward, and may your father’s memory remain a blessing.

If you know of a correctional employee or family experiencing a catastrophic loss, serious injury, or life-altering crisis, please reach out to us. Together, we ensure that no one in the correctional profession walks through hardship alone.
