The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Correctional Officer Kevin Kearney, who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on October 12, 2025, at just 32 years old. His sudden passing remains under investigation, with the cause pending autopsy.
Officer Kearney served at Limon Correctional Facility in Colorado, where he was respected by those who worked alongside him. His loss has been deeply felt throughout the facility and the broader corrections community.
Kevin leaves behind his mother, Karen Kearney, who is now facing significant difficulty with burial costs during this devastating time. Referred to CPOF by Guy Edmonds, this case reflects the heart of our mission: providing meaningful support to the families of correctional staff during life’s most unexpected and overwhelming moments.
CPOF is humbled to assist Officer Kearney’s family through our Catastrophic Assistance Program, made possible by the generosity of our members and supporters. Together, we continue “Taking Care of Our Own,” especially in moments when families need it most.
Please keep the Kearney family and the Limon Correctional community in your thoughts.
