On November 17, 1995, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department lost Correctional Officer Rodney Foster, a dedicated professional whose life was tragically cut short while performing a routine duty in service to his facility and community. As we mark the 30th anniversary of his End of Watch, we pause to honor his commitment, his sacrifice, and the loved ones he left behind.
A Routine Errand Turned Tragic
On the day of the incident, Officer Foster was operating a department van to pick up medical supplies for the jail—a simple but essential task that supports daily operations and inmate care. While in transit, his vehicle was struck by a truck, resulting in fatal injuries.
The sudden and unexpected nature of the collision sent shockwaves through the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department, reminding all of us that the risks associated with correctional work extend far beyond the facility walls.
A Life Devoted to Service
Officer Foster is remembered as a committed member of the department, someone who carried out his duties with reliability, humility, and a sincere dedication to public service. His willingness to serve, whether inside the jail or out in the community, reflects the strength of character found in correctional professionals across the nation.
