Catastrophic Assistance Program – September 2025
When a family crisis unfolds, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation stands ready to provide strength, compassion, and relief to those who serve behind the walls.
Correctional Officer I Tameka Bennett of the Okaloosa County Jail faced a devastating and life-altering event when her daughter sustained a gunshot wound to the head and required extensive hospitalization and ongoing medical care.
Referred by Sergeant Nikki Hatten and Field Representative John Kolodziej, the Catastrophic Assistance Program quickly reached out to offer support. After receiving medical documentation confirming Officer Bennett’s critical role as her daughter’s full-time caregiver, responsible for frequent travel of more than 50 miles each way to Pensacola for appointments and treatment, the Foundation approved financial assistance to help ease the burden. A check was sent to and presented by John Kolodziej on behalf of the CPOF and its members.
Throughout her daughter’s recovery, Officer Bennett has continued to embody the same strength, courage, and compassion she demonstrates in her service at Okaloosa County Jail. Her dedication to her family, her profession, and her community reflects the spirit of perseverance shared by correctional professionals nationwide.
The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is honored to stand beside Officer Bennett and her family during this challenging journey, a reminder of our continued promise to always “Take Care of Our Own.”
