CPOF Provides Catastrophic Assistance to Master Sergeant Sonya Carter

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) recently provided catastrophic assistance to Master Sergeant Sonya Carter, a supporting member from David Wade Correctional Center (Louisiana), after she was displaced from her home due to a fire on July 10, 2025.

The fire caused significant damage to the vinyl siding of her front porch, as well as smoke damage inside the home. In addition, Sergeant Carter lost household furniture, including a couch that had to be replaced.

In a letter of gratitude to CPOF, Correctional Lt. Colonel Elizabeth Savage, on behalf of Warden Michelle Dauzat, Sergeant Carter, and the entire staff of David Wade Correctional Center, shared the following:

“On behalf of Warden Michelle Dauzat, Master Sergeant Sonya Carter, and all of the employees of David Wade Correctional Center, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation for your generosity and support following the recent fire at Master Sergeant Carter’s home.

The fire caused significant damage to her front porch vinyl siding, as well as smoke damage inside her home. In addition, she had to replace a couch lost during the incident. Your donation and assistance during this difficult time has been an incredible source of relief and encouragement.

We are truly grateful for your continued commitment to supporting correctional staff and officers in times of need. Your dedication to the well-being of those who serve in our profession demonstrates compassion and solidarity that does not go unnoticed.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for the support you provided. Your kindness has made a meaningful difference, and we deeply appreciate the work you do for correctional officers and their families.”

Along with her letter, Colonel Savage also shared a photo of the presentation, featuring (left to right): Lt. Col. Elizabeth Savage, M/Sgt. Sonya Carter, and Warden Michelle Dauzat.
