CPOF Assists Family of DJJ Lieutenant Tawaski King

On behalf of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF), Vanessa O’Donnell had the honor of joining co-representative Rose Williams in presenting a catastrophic assistance check to Mrs. Takelia King, the widow of DJJ Lieutenant Tawaski Kentez King. The presentation took place at Eastman YDC, where they were joined by Mrs. King’s daughter, Takeria, and Mrs. McCrimmon, the facility’s HR Director.

Lieutenant King tragically passed away on August 11, 2025, from cardiac arrest at the age of 33. A devoted husband, father, and man of faith, he was widely respected among his peers and community. Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Dublin High School Auditorium, with Prophetess Greta Smith delivering the eulogy. He was laid to rest at Dudley Memorial Cemetery.

Born on September 25, 1991, in Dublin, Georgia, Tawaski was a 2010 graduate of Dublin High School and later a 2014 graduate of Western Carolina University, where he was honored for scoring over 1,000 points in basketball. He began his career with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), where he served with dedication until his untimely passing.

Affectionately known by many nicknames — “T-Watt from the Barber Shop,” “King,” “Coot,” and “Big Scrub” — Tawaski will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and love of family. He is survived by his wife, Minister Takelia King, his children Alanah and Sydney King of East Dublin, Georgia, and Takeria “TK” Smith and Takeia Smith of Dublin, Georgia; his parents, Tamikia King and Timothy Ray; and a host of extended family and friends who will carry forward his memory.

Through the Catastrophic Assistance Program, the CPOF was able to provide immediate financial support to Mrs. King and her family during this incredibly difficult time. This assistance reflects our mission of “Taking Care of Our Own,” ensuring that no correctional family stands alone in the face of tragedy.
