Taking Care of Our Own: The Bailey Family

In early July 2025, the correctional family in Michigan was struck with heartbreaking news. Correctional Officer Toney Lee Bailey II, serving at Oaks Correctional Facility, passed away suddenly at just 37 years old.

Toney, born in Muskegon, Michigan, was known for his vibrant personality, sense of humor, and passion for cooking. Before joining the Michigan Department of Corrections, he dedicated himself to service—whether it was through his time at Portage Lake Covenant Bible Camp, working in kitchens, or serving as a mentor and counselor. He built a life surrounded by family, faith, and friends who admired his loyalty and love of laughter.

Above all, Toney was a devoted husband and father. He married Carly Kaminski in 2013, and together they built a family rooted in love with their two children, Oscar and Evelyn. His passing left his wife and children facing not only the weight of grief but also the sudden financial burden of arranging his burial.

When tragedy strikes, the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation (CPOF) steps in to Take Care of Our Own. Upon learning of the Bailey family’s urgent need, CPOF provided immediate assistance to ensure that Carly could focus on honoring her husband’s life and legacy without the overwhelming stress of financial strain.

Through the generosity of CPOF members and donors, support was delivered quickly—covering essential burial expenses and easing the family’s most pressing needs. This gesture was more than financial; it was a reminder that they are not alone. The correctional profession is a family, and when one of our own falls, we rally together to lift their loved ones up.

Today, Officer Bailey’s memory lives on in his children, in the stories shared by his colleagues and friends, and in the example he set through his kindness, service, and love of family. His wife, children, mother, brothers, and extended family will continue to feel his absence, but they will also carry forward his spirit.

The Correctional Peace Officers Foundation is honored to have been able to stand beside the Bailey family in their time of need—just as we have done for thousands of other correctional families across the nation.

Thank you Carly for sending in this photo of your beautiful children.

Rest in peace, Correctional Officer Toney Bailey II. Your service will never be forgotten, and your family will always remain part of ours.
